Spreadsheets with personal data, open only to the people who need it
Government organisations run daily processes on spreadsheets that hold citizens’ personal data. Privacy law says only the people who need that data may see it, and a shared file can’t enforce that.

The challenge
Anyone who can open a shared file sees every row and every column. Copies are e-mailed and saved locally, and personal data ends up in places nobody keeps track of.
What Excelerant does
- Sets access rules by role or by person, down to a sheet or a range of cells: read, change, or neither.
- Shows two colleagues in the same live workbook only their own part. The server enforces this: what someone may not see never reaches their browser.
- Masks cells marked as personal data when a file is downloaded, and puts only what that person may see in the download.
- Logs every change and keeps the workbook’s version history.
What you get
The process keeps its spreadsheet, with controls your privacy officer can check, and nobody has to rebuild it as an application.
